Further reflection on a fifth straight victory 6.4.11

I kept on remembering today that the Royals had played yesterday and won – again for the fifth time on the trot and are on a nine game run unbeaten in the league. Just like yesterday, which as it was a Tuesday was a long day, I kept remembering that the Royals were playing that night which is always something to look ahead to although it meant I did not get any work done! This adds a certain buzz to the day.

Our next game is really important – which I suppose is always true. Each game is important now for the Royals and the teams around them.

I can’t remember a season recently where the Royals did not have something to play for right to the end of the season, either the prospect of playing in Europe (06/07) avoiding relegation unsuccessfully (07/08), bounce back promotion (08/09), a momentous climb up the table away from relegation trouble and towards potential play offs (09/10) and again a real chance of a play off place this year. In 2005/6 of course the season was done and dusted by 25th March – promotion, and Champions 1st April. The only things left to chase at the end of that season was a record points and goals scored.

Our next game is against Nottingham Forest away. As mentioned earlier they are at the opposite end of the form table over the last 8 games. But across the season our stats are very similar.

goal diff wins draws losses for against points
Reading 21 16 15 8 64 43 63
Nott’m Forest 10 15 15 9 49 39 60

So based on the season so far Saturday’s games should be a draw as we are both the draw specialists. Hopefully the recent form will come through and it will be another win.

Roll on Saturday.
