FA Cup revival

It’s really good to see Brian playing the Royals first team in the FA Cup rather than using it as a squad rotation tool. We’ve got used in the past to not expecting much from Cup competitions, but after the fantastic experience last year which turned the Royal’s season around, it’s a welcome return to this competition.

Swansea are through to the next round, and Cardiff need to win a replay to make their place certain. Crystal Palace are out (and no doubt will now concentrate on the league, which is no bad thing) and Brighton are through with a little “help” from ex-Royals now playing for Portsmouth. Dave Kitson saw red and reduced Portsmouth to 10 men, and Sonko gave away a penalty to see Brighton win over Portsmouth.

The Royals are now away to Stevenage – who knocked Newcastle out, Swansea are home to Leyton Orient, Brighton away to Watford and if Cardiff beat Stoke in the replay they will be away to either Wolves or Doncaster Rovers.

Anyway – back to league action on Saturday away to Doncaster.

I was hoping to go to the Cardiff (away but just up the road) and QPR (home) games, the former being so close and the latter being a good local derby at the Mad Stad. But now the Royals are playing Saturday 29th in the Cup, and then Tuesday 1st February in the evening in Cardiff, and then Friday 4th in the evening against QPR (this fixture was moved from the Saturday). Three games in seven days – can’t help thinking one of these games may be moved for TV if nothing else!

Exciting times!
